The conference titled "Earthquake-Soil Relationship: The Condition of the Grounds of Şırnak City Center" organized by the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering, has been attended by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Şimşek, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Eyyüp Mustafa Eyyuboğlu, academicians and and also students.Participating in the conference as a speaker, Prof. Dr. Kamil Kayabalı , faculty member of the Department of Geological Engineering at Ankara University, emphasized that the durability of the structures and  ground is the most important factor when it comes to earthquakes. Prof. Dr. Kamil Kayabalı stated that the ground of Şırnak city is mostly rocky and that it may be affected by possible earthquakes less than other provinces with non-rocky floors and he added; “ Şırnak city center was established on the slope of a mountain with a rocky base. This has reduced the risk of earthquakes as much as possible. However, the biggest danger for Şırnak is a landslide risk in a possible earthquake. Authorities need to act in this direction”. Following his speech , Prof. Dr. Kayabalı answered the questions of the conference attendees.
